Adenoma of the prostate (prostate gland)
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate adenoma) is a formation that develops from prostate tissue and compresses the urethra. According to statistics, more than half of men over 50 years of age visit a urologist with symptoms of this disease, such as:
- frequent urge to urinate;
- difficulty in starting urination;
- a sluggish stream of urine;
- feeling of incomplete bladder emptying;
- urination at night more than 1-2 times.
Of all the patients with prostate adenoma (adenoma of the prostate gland), surgical treatment is indicated for only 10% of men. Therefore, if you have complaints when urinating, you should not be afraid to see a doctor.
Development of prostate adenoma
Benign hyperplasia is characterized by slow but steady development, which changes the symptoms for the worse.
While at the 1st stage of the disease, the processes occurring in the lower urinary tract only impair the quality of life, at the 2nd and 3rd stages they lead to persistent and irreversible disorders of the functions of internal organs, such as thinning of the bladder wall, replacement of muscle tissue with scar tissue, formation of bladder stones, and renal failure.
Early detection of prostate adenoma (prostate adenoma) significantly delays the operation or avoids it altogether. Therefore, if you experience discomfort in the perineum, blood in the urine, difficulty and frequent urination during the day and at night, you should immediately consult a qualified urologist.
Diagnosis of prostate adenoma
The Urology Department of the Dievo Center has all the necessary equipment for the diagnosis and treatment of male diseases. Our specialists will select an effective treatment for you. You are guaranteed a personal and professional approach and, of course, complete anonymity.
The operating unit of the Action Center is equipped with modern advanced equipment by KARL STORZ, DORNIER. We conduct transactions of any level of complexity.
- The center’s practitioners have extensive practical experience – surgeons of the highest categories, MDs, professors, associate professors of specialized departments – who effectively apply modern and evidence-based author’s techniques to perform successful surgeries.
- Postoperative stay of patients in comfortable and cozy wards of the hospital with medical support.
- Our advantage is that we use only the latest non-traumatic laparoscopic, endoscopic and laser technologies that allow us to perform operations of any complexity and achieve high quality results!
- Thanks to the use of modern and gentle technologies, we reduce the possible risks of complications and recurrence of diseases, minimizing the recovery time.
What to do and where to start…
…when did urinary incontinence begin to significantly affect your quality of life?
First of all, stop self-medicating and do not postpone the examination. Entrust your problem to the urologists of the Dievo Surgical Solutions Center and do not be afraid that you will be offered surgery right off the bat.
First of all, you will undergo a series of examinations:
- Ultrasound of the prostate to determine its volume and the amount of residual urine in the bladder;
- uroflowmetry;
- a blood test for PSA (tumor marker), and only then will it be possible to discuss your specific situation, develop an individual treatment plan and start it.
We always try (if the stage of the disease and the patient’s condition allow) to start with medical treatment.
If the stage of your disease is such that drug therapy has little effect on prostate growth and symptom reduction, then you should resort to surgical treatment.

Transurethral resection (TUR) of prostate adenoma
Previously, most adenomas were removed by open surgery, which was associated with significant blood loss, trauma, prolonged hospitalization and a significant rehabilitation period, but now the most common and effective surgery is transurethral resection of the prostate gland. This method allows to remove adenoma without incisions and punctures through the urethra.
How transurethral resection (TUR) is performed
At the Dievo Clinic, we use high-tech and modern equipment from the German company Storz to perform transurethral resection:
- HD camera and monitor for better visualization,
- A bipolar resectoscope that allows for better, faster and bloodless removal of glands, even of large sizes.
Inpatient treatment after surgery takes no more than 2-3 days, and the rehabilitation period is 1-2 weeks.
Bipolar or plasmokinetic TUR – performed through the canal.
The advantages of bipolar tour:
- A safe method;
- Thanks to video visualization, the doctor can clearly see whether the adenoma has been completely removed;
- Healing is faster than after laser;
- Material is taken for histology (to determine whether the tumor is benign or malignant).
The categories of complexity are divided:
- TURN of the prostate of the first category of complexity (up to 60 cc);
- TURN of the prostate of the II category of complexity (from 60 cc to 100 cc);
- TURN of the prostate of the III category of complexity (from 100 cc to 120 cc);
- TURN of the prostate of IV category of complexity (more than 120 cm cube).
Laser vaporization of prostate adenoma
It is also worth mentioning that we have other innovative surgical techniques at our disposal that allow us to perform prostate surgery. Namely, with a laser from the German company Dornier .
Thanks to its use, the adenoma can be vaporized, i.e., converted from a solid aggregate state to a gaseous state. This method is even less traumatic than transurethral resection and is completely bloodless. But its disadvantage is that its use is advisable for small-sized hyperplasia.
Today, every second man over the age of 40 is diagnosed with prostate adenoma. Unlike prostatitis, which is accompanied by inflammatory processes, benign adenoma involves tissue growth, i.e., the development of a tumor. This causes significant discomfort in everyday life. The disease usually develops very slowly, over many years.
Basically, the development of the disease is associated with hormonal disorders, which is observed in almost all men after 45 years (the so-called male menopause or andropause).
Early detection of prostate adenoma significantly delays the operation or avoids it altogether. Therefore, if you experience discomfort in the perineum, blood in the urine, difficulty and frequent urination during the day and at night, you should immediately consult a qualified urologist.
Preventive measures for adenoma formation are:
- physical activity, which helps reduce the likelihood of blood stasis in the body, including in the pelvic organs;
- regular visits to the doctor and PSA level monitoring are mandatory for men over 45;
- balanced nutrition and weight control.
When you visit the urologists-surgeons of the Dievo Center, you will be provided with a full range of highly professional assistance in the treatment of
prostate adenoma of any size.
The urologists of the Dievo Center carry out diagnostics and surgical treatment on a scheduled or emergency basis. We guarantee the use of modern and proprietary techniques and new high-precision optical technologies.
