Bladder papilloma

Bladder papilloma is a tumor that forms on the inner walls of the bladder and consists of branched villi of different lengths. It can be both benign and malignant.

The peculiarity of this disease is that it may not manifest itself for a long period of time. Papilloma can be detected only by ultrasound of the bladder and during a visual examination – by cystoscopy. During the examination, modern cystocopes allow you to take material for biopsy with subsequent histological examination.

Bladder papillomas – treatment

Bladder papilloma is treated exclusively by surgery, as there is a risk of degeneration from a benign to a malignant tumor. For this type of pathology, our urologists-surgeons prefer endoscopic operations. Transurethral resection (TUR) allows to achieve an effective result for bladder papilloma removal.

The operation itself is performed without an incision, as access to bladder papillomas is provided by the urethra, through which a resectoscope with a laser tip is inserted. With the help of a laser beam and a special loop, pathological tissue is cut off layer by layer with simultaneous coagulation of bleeding vessels. After the resection is completed, an elastic catheter is inserted through the urethra to drain the urine. The rehabilitation period is 1-2 days.

The advantages of endoscopic surgical treatment include:

  • bloodlessness,
  • low traumatism,
  • minimal risk of bleeding,
  • the possibility of taking material for biopsy,
  • short duration of urethral drainage in the bladder,
  • the possibility of performing the procedure in patients with severe extragenital pathology.
