Mammoplasty is a plastic surgery that allows you to change the shape and/or size of the breast. Most often, patients are interested in breast augmentation surgery with the help of implants. Indications for mammoplasty:
Most often, breast plastic surgery is performed for aesthetic reasons:
- when a woman is not satisfied with the size of her breasts;
- there is a pronounced asymmetry of the breast;
- breast prolapse due to age-related changes or after childbirth and feeding the baby;
- other individual wishes.
In some cases, mammoplasty may also have medical indications, including:
- congenital abnormalities of the mammary glands;
- serious chest injuries;
- recovery after mastectomy or other surgeries;
- replacement of previously installed breast implants.
Contraindications to mammoplasty:
Breast plastic surgery is not performed on minors. Contraindications for mammoplasty also include:
- neoplasms of the mammary glands;
- serious systemic pathologies;
- exacerbation of chronic diseases.
These prohibitions are not absolute, i.e., after the treatment of existing pathologies, it is possible to successfully perform plastic surgery on the breast.
What breast implants are used?
Implants are more commonly used to increase breast size. They differ in terms of:
- warehouse. Either silicone gel or saline is used as a filler for breast implants. The latter variations are easier to install: they are placed through a small puncture in the skin, and then filled with saline. But in the future, these implants need to be replaced, because they lose their shape. But silicone analogs are not subject to deformation, and reputable manufacturers even give them a lifetime warranty;
- form. It can be teardrop-shaped or round. The former looks natural and is anatomically closer to the real thing. And round implants allow for greater fullness in the upper part of the breast;
- surface structure. Smooth and textured implants are distinguished. The former are more natural, and the latter do not move and are not subject to such complications as capsular contracture.

How is mammoplasty performed?
Plastic surgeons at the Dievo Center not only help patients choose breast implants, but also solve other fundamental problems, including determining
- optimal location of implants. They are placed directly under the breast or under the pectoral muscle. The first option is optimal for female athletes, and the second for thin girls. In addition, two-plane implant placement is possible;
- appropriate surgical access. During mammoplasty, an incision is made in the breast area through which the implant is placed. It can be made in the armpit, along the contour of the areola, in the groove under the breast, or even on the abdomen (with a simultaneous tummy tuck).
The location of the implant and the type of access is determined by the doctor after assessing the physiological characteristics of a particular patient.
After mammoplasty, to preserve the aesthetic results, you will need to follow the basic rules of rehabilitation. This usually includes the temporary wearing of compression garments, a balanced diet, and limiting physical activity.
Types of mammoplasty:
- Breast lift (mastopexy).
- Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty).
- Replacement of breast implants (re-endoprosthetics).
