Prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is an oncological disease in which a malignant tumor forms in the prostate. This is one of the most common types of cancer in men, which, according to statistics, kills every tenth elderly man.

The danger of prostate cancer (adenocarcinoma) lies in the rapid development of malignant cells and the general unpredictability of the disease.

The key to effective fight against this cancer is timely detection. Since prostate cancer is well treatable at stages I and II, we strongly recommend visiting urologists at the Diyevo Medical Center in Kyiv for preventive purposes.

Risk factors for prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is most often diagnosed in men over 60 years of age. Old age is one of the main risk factors for this disease. Other causes of prostate cancer include the following:

  • Heredity – if any of the close relatives had prostate cancer;
  • Chronic inflammatory processes of the prostate;
  • Occupational risks associated with harmful chemicals;
  • Food that is rich in animal fats and carcinogens;
  • Hormonal disorders (drugs);
  • Symptoms of prostate cancer in the first phase of the disease are practically absent.

Symptoms of prostate cancer

The insidiousness of prostate cancer is that in the early stages of the disease there are no manifestations. Therefore, without preventive visits to the urologist, it is almost impossible to detect the disease in the first phase. That is why after the 45th birthday, or even earlier, all men, without exception, are recommended to regularly visit the urology department of our clinic “Diyevo”.

With the development of the disease, symptoms characteristic of other pathologies of the prostate gland, including adenoma (benign hyperplasia), may occur. These include:

  • increased urge to urinate;
  • discomfort in the groin area;
  • difficult or painful urination;
  • urinary incontinence;
  • feeling of incomplete bladder emptying.

In some cases, even late-stage prostate cancer can be asymptomatic.

Diagnosis of prostate cancer

As a rule, a single examination by a urologist is not enough to establish an accurate diagnosis. Additionally, it is recommended to undergo laboratory tests, including an analysis for a special cancer marker PSA.

The main instrumental diagnostic methods include ultrasound of the prostate gland.

Treatment of prostate cancer

It is quite possible to completely cure this dangerous pathology in the early stages (first and second). Complex treatment with surgery is indicated. The necessary types of intervention are determined individually, taking into account the available indications. Urological surgeons at the Dievo Medical Center prefer minimally invasive methods of surgical treatment.

In case of metastases, blood appears in the urine and semen, and pain in the prostate gland appears. But even in the later stages with metastases, the patient may not feel any symptoms.
