Ureteral stones

Laser lithotripsy: removal of ureteral stones

Removal of stones in the bladder and urinary tract. Treatment of urolithiasis at the Dievo Center.

Ureteral stones are one of the most common diseases of the genitourinary system. Stones can form in any part of the urinary system, but most often they are observed in the ureter. But since the ureter is an anatomically narrow long tube (about 30 cm), the resulting stones can cause dangerous and severe health consequences.

The attack may be accompanied by cramping, intense and sharp pain, heart palpitations, general malaise, nausea (vomiting may occur) in the side of the abdomen, groin, genital area. The pain can be intolerable, appearing “for no particular reason” because it is impossible to predict the movement of the stone.

Ureteral stones can grow without painful attacks and, when they reach large sizes, lead to impaired urine flow from the kidney, hydronephrosis is formed, and this can usually lead to kidney loss. In addition, a common complication is the addition of infection – secondary pyelonephritis.

The DORNIER Center uses modern equipment – a laser from the German company DORNIER (holmium laser), which is known for its high technical achievements in urology. This laser can crush stones of any size and density. After exposure to this laser, stones are painlessly and independently removed from the genitourinary system.

Surgical treatment of ureteral stones should be accompanied not only by removal of the stone, release of the ureteral lumen and restoration of urine flow through the ureter, but also by elimination of the anatomical cause of stone formation.

Signs of urolithiasis:

  • difficulty urinating and pain,
  • pain in the suprapubic area,
  • frequent urge to urinate,
  • the presence of blood in the urine,
  • very severe pain radiating to the lower back.

At the Dievo Center, urologists and surgeons treat urolithiasis with a gentle, minimally traumatic endoscopic method – LASER CONTACT LITHOTRIPPING. With the help of a urethroscope with a built-in laser fiber, the stone is destroyed at the site of its localization and with any density. The laser creates a shock wave and, upon contact with the stone, crushes it without injury or damage to the surrounding tissue.

Laser lithotripsy is considered a unique method of removing ureteral stones of various sizes and in 1 procedure without recurrence!

Today, it is the safest, non-traumatic minimally invasive surgery that can remove stones from the ureter and bladder without resorting to open surgery, as before.

Advantages of laser contact lithotripsy

  • a unique gentle, painless method,
  • removal of stones of any size in 1 procedure,
  • fast rehabilitation,
  • fast recovery,
  • low risk of relapse.

In order to avoid any complications with diseases of the genitourinary system, in case of initial discomfort, you should consult a urologist. The doctor will conduct a consultation and an ultrasound examination, take anamnesis and, if necessary, prescribe laboratory tests and, if the onset of abnormalities in the genitourinary system is detected, will provide the necessary qualified assistance.
